New Life
New Life is a work created for the exhibition Diversi Presenti at the Società Umanitaria in Milan. Twelve vessels, thrown on the wheel, follow one another in a sequence of imperfect forms marked by asymmetries, fractures and scars. Each vessel carries the memory of the gesture that shaped it and of the difficulties encountered along the way during firing. Those imperfections are not shortcomings but traces of a process, like the wounds and transformations each of us goes through in life. And yet, inside these vessels grow medicinal plants, symbols of healing and rebirth. Signs that fragility can become strength, that what has been broken can give life to something new. With New Life, I wanted to tell this intertwining of vulnerability and resilience, of care and transformation. Because, just as plants find a way to grow even in the most unexpected places, so too we can regenerate and flourish, in spite of everything.
