This Is a Fresco
In this performance the artist repeatedly writes the word fare ("to do/to make") on a wall using only her finger. At first the gesture produces no visible mark: the writing exists solely as action, as a movement reiterated in space and time. As the action continues, the friction between skin and surface progressively alters both the wall and the body. The finger wears down, fatigue accumulates and the word slowly emerges, made visible by the traces left by the action itself. The work brings gesture, time and endurance into relation, turning writing into a physical process that demands insistence and perseverance. The mark is not applied onto the surface but won through the labour of the body, making the act of doing coincide with its very appearance.
